A Video Guide to Teaching a Newborn C1 Norn
Written onAs promised, here is a brand new Creatures 1 video! It features a tutorial focused around the early life of a newborn Norn, and the teaching methods I use. Hopefully there are a couple of helpful tips sprinkled throughout! I apologize for the video’s rather long length. Luckily, there are three chapters to make for easy pause points! Enjoy watching, and feel free to share any tips or methods for early Norn education!
Creatures 1 Tutorial: Teaching a Newborn Norn

This was really helpful! I recently got creatures 1, but being used to C3/DS, I was completely lost!
My main method for teaching creatures in C1 can be summed up in two words: Encyclopedia Nornica. :P I’m lazy.
As an additional note, I’m not quite sure how good of an idea it is to flood a creature with tickles. An overload of reward/punishment isn’t good for the brain as it can confuse the creature as to what’s right/wrong. If I bother to tickle/slap creatures at all, one tickle/slap suffices. It feels good for the creature in the short-term, but in the long-term I don’t think it’ll have a positive effect.
The Cheshire Cat: I’m glad this helped you out! It’s definitely a bit of a shock going from C3/DS to C1… So many differences, even though it seems like C1 should be so much easier. In some ways, it’s a more difficult experience, though one that’s very enjoyable!
Grendel Man: Encyclopedia Nornica is a very useful teaching method! Mine takes forever… That’s the quick and concise way, and one that definitely works. My floods of tickles are usually due to my excitement. I’m notorious for confusing my Norns sometimes, mostly due to my own lack of thought! I think you make a very valid point about this, and how a single tickle or slap usually does the trick. I haven’t seen any truly negative consequences, although I also can’t say that multiple tickles are better than just one. Sometimes I wish there was at least another way to interact with Norns besides just tickling/slapping: A way to pet them without any reward would be rather nice.
