The Interesting Sayings of a Grendel
Written onAfter gallivanting around Albia like a maniac, Ranulf finally settled down for a nap. I noticed that he had become pretty terrible when it came to sleeping: He often allowed himself to stay exhausted for a long period of time. With only Nordis around, I figured he would finally take a rest. Ranulf was already the proud father of a whopping twelve eggs! That seemed like more than enough…
Correction: Make that thirteen! I attempted to keep the two Norns separated, but my attempts were all in vain. Nordis laid her egg a little bit sooner than expected, although the pain was just as intense. I smiled as I watched her slap Ranulf immediately after the egg appeared: She figured he deserved to share a little bit of that pain, too! I hoped that this would be the last egg to add to the reserves. For those wondering, there were a total of 33 unhatched eggs at this point! That seemed like more than enough. And Ranulf was responsible for a little less than half of them. Wow!
While Nordis recovered and was in no position to become pregnant again, I decided to head off to the relatively quiet desert island and hang out with Halvor. He was more than adorable with his honeypots that he enjoyed picking up and putting down. The way he held one kind of reminded me of a child holding a teddy bear! Halvor attempted to scare away the ball by saying “run toy” and seeing if it would run away. No such luck this time!
Ranulf and Nordis wandered off for a little beach vacation, and made a good friend in the Grendel. He adopted the funniest saying, which sounded like a mix between flabby and blubber. “Get flabber Halvor” could be heard throughout Creatures 1 over and over again! He was really attempting to say “get good Halvor” but I rather preferred his wording. Nordis, on the other hand, appeared to be quite offended!
Ranulf, you machine! 12 eggs is incredibly impressive. Even C3 Norns don’t often have that many children.
33 eggs though. Obviously you’ll hatch all of them at some stage, but with a limit of 12 Norns in the world at one time how to you intend to organise the second generation?
Ranulf was insane! I may have been responsible for a few of the eggs, since I brought Norns together. But it was mostly him and his excellent timing! I believe all of the other male Norns fathered about 4-6 baby Norns each. In the next generation, I’ll still let nature take its course, but I’m going to try to avoid another situation like this. Ranulf can live on in history as the most fertile Norn!
Great question, Arch! I’ve been thinking this over myself. I actually use a couple of different COBs that allow 24 Norns to live in the world at once. The observation kit is known to crash with 18 or more Norns, though, so I plan on keeping only 12-16 Norns in the world at one time. There is also the fact that I’ll be creating a new world, and the import feature only allows 8 Norns to be imported at any one time.
I’m almost certain that I may need to lay eggs via the Genetics Kit and inject these one at a time. It technically means that the original eggs will not be used, but the genes will remain intact. I think new genomes will be created, but there will be no further mutations. The main sticking point is the silly broken cart, which still seems to be affecting the world and making it a little glitchy.
I’ll inject each “egg” in order, at intervals of about 20 minutes, until there are 12-16 Norns in the world. Then, as each Norn passes on, I’ll hatch the next Norn in order.
Any thoughts or opinions on this plan? It might not be 100% ideal, but I think it just might work out! Also, Halvor would be imported immediately: Can’t forget about him!
