Metallic Plants: The Inspiration for a New World
Written onWith my last Creatures Docking Station world concept completed, I’ve been on the lookout for some inspiration for another world. I’m one who loves the natural side of Creatures, with all of its amazing plants and Garden Box agents. Amazingly, though, it was the complete opposite that suddenly got me excited about C3/DS again! With a little experimentation to see how the world would work, I knew I had something that would be interesting. I often shy away from introducing too many new elements into my game, mostly due to my incompetence with proper installation. Then I came across the Gaius breed pack by Ghosthande!
My recent encounter with the game Machinarium made this concept even more appealing! Perhaps it isn’t as expected as my other worlds, yet this is something different that really interests me. There are still additional plans to make and possibly a few tweaks to the starting genomes, but I plan on enjoying a very different sort of C3/DS world! My only issue presented itself in this screenshot… Apparently the water drops decided to get stuck in one place and not disappear? Is this even a common issue, or one that doesn’t happen very often? Aside from this little glitch, everything else in my test ran quite smoothly! The number of plants and critters that fit in with a technological theme are limited, though I have to say that I was pleased with the end result. Perhaps someone might even think to create some metallic patch plants for the Garden Box. Hopefully this world, populated by the Gaius breed, will be an interesting one!
The issue with the water droplets stems from the way the C3/DS collision script works… it sometimes fails to trigger when a collision occurs.
One solution is to inject the Thorny Devil lizards from the Dustdevil Grendel breed pack. I got tired of raindrops and cactus seeds getting stuck and cluttering up the desert terrarium (because both suffer from the same glitch you’ve noticed here), so these lizards act as a sort of cleanup crew. They will “drink up” water drops as they amble along, and will happily inhabit any kind of environment, as long as it’s warm enough.
Excellent suggestion! My only problem is that my test world takes place in an area whose rooms are all classified as atmosphere (0). It looks like the Thorny Devil eggs can’t hatch in this room type, and bringing in an adult led to its immediate death. Are there other room types that are conducive to growing the items from the Gaius breed pack which would also work for the Thorny Devils? Still experimenting at the moment, so any bit of help is awesome! I have a feeling I’ll be using these little lizards to help out with this glitch, so long as I can get them in a place that they can live. Thanks!
Thorny Devils and their eggs don’t base inhabitability on room type, but on how hot the room is (they are desert lizards after all!) so if one died it was probably too cold.
Though I know they look out of place in a mechanical jungle… perhaps there will be something more suitable in the next batch of techno-organic flora and fauna.
Thanks for that clarification! I managed to heat up some of the rooms and bring them to life. I’ve since scrapped this world for a new one, because apparently I had hundreds of raindrops piled up in that one spot. Even the “kill hots” command wouldn’t work fast enough! Another batch of techno-organic flora and fauna would be amazing!
