Docking Station Installed
Written onAfter waiting far too long, I finally downloaded and installed Docking Station tonight! The installation went smoothly, as expected, but the only annoying requirement for playing is changing the color scheme to 16-bit color, rather than 32-bit. Not a big deal, though, since it’s a relatively easy thing to fix. I have to admit that I’m a little overwhelmed with everything in DS, though: It’s like a whole new world, and I got a little lost. No Norns have been hatched, though, so they’re not undergoing any issues associated with my discombobulation! Any tips on where to find a basic overview of Docking Station, as well as more in-depth information?

The 32-bit this is really annoying. In particular because you don’t have the same issue with stand alone C3, which is just strange.
I can’t say I had a lot of issue working in DS. There’s the main room you start in where you’re norns will spend all their time. Then there’s the agent injecting room (middle). The other room is for sending norns through the warp. You may have trouble finding people to warp with these days so I personally don’t spend any time there.
And then of course there’s the link to C3 if you’ve decided to make a docked world.
I’ve recently created a new world without docking station because I found my norns would all end up getting stuck in the DS main room and overcrowd each other. And because I was trying out wolfing runs all my norns in the norn terrarium ending up becoming Grendel fodder :(
I’m having a lot more success with stand alone C3, although it does mean I haven’t been able to get the Chichi norns into the game.
Don’t know if you’ve heard of them, but I really recommend using the CFE genetics. Vampess made some major updates to the norns brains and they can get around the world a lot easier. Check it out at the link below if you haven’t already.

Thank you for such a detailed response, Arch! I’m getting the hang of navigating around the different rooms, and even tested out what the world would be like with some Creatures in it. It’s a bit laggy, but I’ll try to solve that soon enough!
The CFE genetics look great: Updated brains are always useful, considering how it seems like the original ones were either missing something or had some conflicts. Thank you very much for pointing the site out: It was very helpful!
I believe there is an agent out there that culls down your ecosystem if you’re having some lag issues. Although it may only effect the original C3 rooms, I’m not sure.
I’ve seen a noticable difference after using the CFE genetics. The norns (ettins and grendels) are much better at finding food on different levels and seem a lot less likely to get stuck playing with the lifts.
They’re also much more social in that they are more likely to hate or love each other, rather than just liking everyone. Only issue I’ve found is they often say how much they like the hand. Which then prompts nearby norns to echo. Which then prompts the original to echo. And echo…and echo…I’ve quite litterally needed to seperate norns as they’re just got plain annoying at times :P
Erro. Hope to see ya in the warp! Be on the lookout for my monitors! :D
Arch, I’ll have to look into the lagging issue, but thanks again for the tips! The CFE genetics sound amazing: I never expect Norns to be geniuses, but a little extra intelligence goes a long way! The social aspect also seems very interesting, although the echo is something I think we all could go without! I think it happens, to some degree, in every Creatures game… Even a small group of three or four Norns can wreak havoc on the ears!
I’ll be keeping an eye out for you, tercerois2cool!
Decided to start reading the Docking Station “episodes” now, and I can’t wait!
Enjoy, Chip! Thanks so much for reading everything: Nice to know what was written in the past is still being checked out every now and then!
Not a problem. I’m always late to the party, but that just means I have a pace of my own to stick to. Someone’s gotta bring up the rear, amirite?
