Introducing Noric the Norn

After spending a good deal of time with Adria and deciding that she could take care of herself, I decided to choose a male Norn to bring into Albia. Seems like some voters in the first poll were psychic: I present Noric, the male Brown Mouse Norn! Is that the cutest little smile or what? Noric traveled past the lift leading to the computer before I could push the button, so he got a little taste of freedom. Learning isn’t so bad, but newborn Norns usually want to eat and explore, rather than listening to a computer spew unfamiliar words over and over again.

Noric is a dapper little gentleman: Look at his posture! I love how he sat down in the streaming sunshine, contemplating life. Or maybe he was just determining how to escape from the crazy hand who so desperately wanted him to follow it! While at the computer, Noric said most of the verbs correctly within 2-3 tries. I was impressed! With Adria’s strong independent instincts and Noric’s ability to quickly learn, I’m excited to see their children! That was quite far off, though, since Noric himself was still just a baby. He hadn’t even met Adria! C1 Norns almost always get along, yet one never knows.

I quickly checked up on Adria while Noric explored the garden, and I was horrified to see that Xodin, my Grendel, had met up with her and was having a grand time of slapping her around. I had to quickly spring into action, although my efforts to separate the two species was hampered when Noric decided to join in on the action. We managed to escape through the underground tunnel beneath the garden, but Adria and Noric met up a little sooner than I had planned. Not that it was terrible: Noric seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself!

Grendels are not a bad species, but with their tendencies to abuse Norns, it’s important to supervise any encounters. Luckily, Xodin has been enjoying his time on the island, where I bring him food on a somewhat regular basis. Noric continues to enjoy the world, which he has been pretty good at exploring. He enjoyed watching the cascading waterfall for a time, although I suspect he was more interested in finding a pot of honey! In fact, he probably would have been much happier had the waterfall been a waterfall of honey! If we could find out what Norns dreamed of, I would imagine that this would certainly make the list. That, and toys literally falling from the sky and bouncing all over the place.

He and I had some issues with eating after he got preoccupied with riding up and down a lift and looking at Adria. He really does prefer his honey over anything else, although with a little work, he found out that carrots and lemons can be very tasty and nutritious! The funniest thing that Noric does is his alien pose… Does this really look like a Norn? He was very happy, though, so he can become a professional contortionist if he so desires! This is one rather glaring body data issue with his breed, so fortunately it wasn’t anything he did to himself!

At this point in Creatures 1, Adria is a fully grown adult, with Noric not too far behind. I expect that they will be starting their own family soon! I also might introduce two more first generation Norns in order to keep the genetics pool diverse. Fortunately, inbreeding is not an issue for Norns due to their genetic structure, but a bit of diversity usually means a better chance of having stronger and smarter Norns down the line. For now, I’m pretty confident that Adria and Noric will be a very strong foundation for the Norns of Albia!
