A Belated Reaction to the Creatures 4 Announcement
Written onAfter many months away from the community, imagine my surprise when I discovered that Creatures 4 had been announced in May 2011! Fishing Cactus, along with Bigben and Gameware, will be delivering this much anticipated title sometime this year. After many rumors of another Creatures game, I believe our community has come to believe that Creatures 4 would never actually come to life. In a way, though, this has not deterred us from playing our original games: Indeed, Creatures 1 is still my favorite game in the series! Updates and additions to the games have never ceased. Even today, nearly ten years since the last official Creatures release, new developments continue to be designed by members of the community. We have kept our beloved games fresh and alive: A special thanks goes out to the community members of the past and present who gave Creatures the attention it deserves! Imagine where we would be without this passionate dedication.
It finally looks as though our biggest dream will become a reality! Very few details are available about Creatures 4 at this point, yet I am very excited to learn more about what is to come. Cautious optimism seems to be the general consensus across the Creatures community: It’s difficult to know what to expect, and with nearly ten years to dream about what Creatures 4 could be, we have a vast amount of ideas and suggestions!
There are certain features I would love to see in the new installment of Creatures, although it’s difficult to understand what could be possible. As more details are released from Fishing Cactus, I’ll probably chime in and put together a little wishlist. Setting expectations too high so early on could be very counterproductive. Judging by the philosophy and previous games that Fishing Cactus has produced, I have a lot of confidence that the company will deliver something fresh and new. Creatures 4 can not be everything to everyone, yet I encourage everyone to give the game a chance. The early descriptions sound quite promising!
Creatures 4 is something I, and perhaps many others, never thought would be possible. I thoroughly thank all of those involved at Fishing Cactus, Bigben, and Gameware for giving this series another installment! A decade of waiting looks like it will come to a close. I look forward to finding out more about the game, as I’m sure everyone else is! Keep an eye out for more Creatures 4 updates towards the end of the summer. Creatures 4 was renamed Creatures Online in 2013.
It’s all dreadfully exciting. I’d say my biggest hope for the game is that it will do well enough for them to want to make a Creatures 5.
Creatures 1 was probably a little before it’s time. It didn’t really receive the marketing it deserved and as such most of the gamers I know have never heard of it. But I think now with the number of casual gamers out there a re-releast of the Creatures products might just hit the market exactly where it’s needed.
Well said, ArchDragon! I hope that this release pushes the series forward into the future, and opens up the door for continued improvement. One of the elements of the Creatures games that has been so endearing is the fact that each game has its own uniqueness: Although improvements were made along the way, I still feel like Creatures 1 can be just as enjoyable as Creatures 3. That usually isn’t the case with many games that have sequels: The earlier versions often get thrown out and forgotten. In a way, I hope that Creatures 4 follows the pattern!
Creatures 4 could also pave the way for the earlier games to gain some popularity. With the GOG.com versions available for Windows Vista/Windows 7 at a very reasonable price, I think our community could definitely see a boost in activity and membership. However, I think the emphasis will be on Creatures 4!
