An Emergency Norn Quarantine Caught on Video
Written onI promised a new video in my last update, and I decided to get it done rather quickly! Pipit was the main character, along with me basically sounding like a silly fool when he stopped eating. I figured this would be a pretty short video that might be bland… But then Creatures 1 did its usual thing, and I ended up capturing some very dramatic moments! Just a note that my method for helping sick Creatures recover is not the only way, nor is it the best. I think anyone can find flaws! C1 antigens are devastating if one isn’t accustomed to them. For beginning and advanced players, I hope this sheds some light on just what to expect when a Norn falls ill. I hope it helps!
The suspense will remain until you’ve watched: Did Pipit make it? Did he spread the illness? I’ll save a wrap-up of the events for a post several days from now. Not that I expect anyone to be on the edge of their seat with anticipation! I have laid out and planned multiple Creatures videos, and the only ones that really went accordingly were the ones not involving in-game footage. Which is precisely why I love Creatures: There’s no way to script it! Norns go about their business, and disasters strike randomly. Feel free to leave comments or suggestions! I’m always looking for ways to make Creatures videos more enjoyable!
Glad he made it! He had me worried there… Poor Junco though, he will be missed… at least he lived quite a bit longer than you thought he would at first. It’s funny how one becomes more attached to creatures with quirky problems like his, you always seem to feel it more when they pass on.
Pipit was reminding me of my C1 norns when I try to get them to eat sometimes… they will look at the food, say ‘food’, pick it up, look at the food again, then just give me a sad face… drop the food, look at me again, pick it up put it down, and so on… Usually about at that point, if the norn seems to just not be getting it, my grendel, who always seems to love just watching these sessions, comes and grabs the food and munches it himself, lol… Funny thing is I’m pretty sure he’s not that hungry when he does it, and he sits for a pretty long time calmly just watching before he grabs the food… maybe he’s just trying to be helpful and show my norns how it’s done :)
That got so tense! Watching that life force drop and drop was heartbreaking. When he was more or less at the point of no return, it was the saddest thing. When he finally ate, I all but cheered!
Poor little Junko, though… He was my favorite, too : (
Evolnemesis: I’m completely guilty of getting attached to my quirky Creatures. Sometimes all it takes is someone pulling a cute stunt, though. I’m hopeless! My Grendels are actually very similar to what happens with yours! If a Norn isn’t doing anything with a food item and a Grendel is nearby, chances are very good that he or she is ready to swoop in and enjoy a little feast! Good thing overeating doesn’t cause weight gain… Grendels might be a little more round since they often eat much better!
Shira: I was very upset over the loss of Junco, and Pipit’s impending death was awful. I think he literally saved himself with mere seconds to spare! I had to keep myself under control so I wasn’t yelling like a fool. Well, at least not more than usual! Ha ha! Junco will get a proper memorial service when I post the next C1 update. His last journey really was that much more important. It was like his last gift to the Norns. He’ll always be remembered, and will live in. But I already miss his tiny, bald head.
I kind of think a lot of the time when these norns seem to not be getting it with food they are play-acting at least a little and really just enjoy the attention of the hand and having you talking to them so much.., mine seem to eat a lot when I’m not watching them or trying to get them to eat, but once I’m there going ‘push food’ ‘push food’ ‘push food’ they just go into this little act.. ‘what? you mean this food?’ ‘nah… can’t be… what is this food you speak of?’ ‘push food? you mean the button right? no? the hand? this food right here I’m holding now and looking right at? no…’
That definitely could be a motivator! I’m notorious for tickling Norns and Grendels when they haven’t actually done anything deserving of a reward… I blame myself for many of the problems, though I do agree that they sometimes play-act just to be the center of attention. This is why Junco was so great: He couldn’t actually focus on food so he rarely ate, yet he never annoyed me by pretending to forget how to eat. So many Creatures can be downright lazy and silly!
This video got my best friend interested in the Creatures series! A few months ago, I had her over for the weekend, and I happened to watch this video in my room while she sat on my bed reading. She heard it through my headphones and asked what I was watching. I unplugged my headphones so we could both hear it, and we watched it together while I explained it to her. She was completely immersed in the video, and throughout the whole thing she kept asking me if poor Pipit would make it! After the video was over, I set up a world on my computer just for her, and now whenever she comes over, she wants to play with her Norns and listen to me babble on and on about Creatures. Anyway, keep on posting, and know that you’ve gotten yet another teenager into something I get the feeling not many would care about!
That is one of the best comments, Ava! I’m so happy that this helped get your friend interested in Creatures, and thank you for sharing this story! It’s a game series that not too many people really know about, but it’s really quite interesting. If there’s anything else in particular that would interest the both of you, let me know! I’m hoping to have some more videos posted soon, although we’ll have to see if they’re as interesting as this one turned out to be. Enjoy Creatures, and thanks again for reading/watching!
