A Completed Creatures 3 Visual Family Tree
Written onAfter a round of headaches and a few technical glitches, the Creatures 3 Family Tree has been completed! ArchDragon made a post about SpiderScribe some time ago, and I’ve been quietly playing around with it ever since. I realize that this might appear to be a very bare bones approach to a Creatures family tree, yet the alternative was my typical overly detailed approach! I hope that this visual model is fairly easy to understand for those following along with my Norns, as well as for those who may have adopted a Norn or two from CreatureLink. Feel free to comment with any ideas or suggestions, though! Family trees are often rather tricky, and creating one that made sense without getting too detailed was a challenge. Enjoy… I hope!
I found a few interesting patterns after finishing this family tree. The alpha male has consistently been either the second or third to last son born to the alpha couple: This has translated into a younger male. On the other hand, the alpha female has always been the first or second born female, who is one of the oldest females. I hadn’t realized that there was such a pattern going on! Thank goodness for family trees!
It kind of makes sense that the older females would become the alpha females, because they’ve had more sleeps and so more instinct training – they know what to do better than a younger female might… But this doesn’t explain the ‘younger male’… Except, perhaps, that as he is younger, he is more likely to not cope with being crowded by his brothers and strays from the crowd of males? (And, usually, right into the crowd of females by accident….I never said norns were bright….)
Do you think this has any merit to it?
This makes it much easier to trace back through generations and trace lines. It’s lovely and clear. It should be very useful, especially if you want to pinpoint where particular things have originated from.
I believe what you said has lots of merit to it, Malkin. As well as these factors, I also believe some of it is purely down to chance; the Norns happening to be in the right place, at the right time. =^_^= Of course, some other factors do come into it.
Malkin: Your explanation makes a lot of sense! There have been a few kisspops without pregnancies, which would have made a younger female the alpha female. But the instinct training would explain a lot. The males are an entirely different story… They’re typically not too crowded, since they’re given a pretty large area to roam around in. Seems like the youngsters are more curious and willing to leave their brothers, while the older males seem set in their ways about hanging out with the rest of the boys. If the pattern keeps up in the next generation, I’m going to be taking a much closer look at the tow groups’ behaviors!
SpringRain: I’m glad this helps out! Next on my list is the Creatures 1 family tree, which will be a little more tricky, since there are many males, compared to just one per generation in my C3/DS world. The alpha couple is supposed to be based purely on chance, but with this pattern, I’m thinking something else is a major factor besides luck. Seems like the next video should be an interesting one!
I don’t think the instinct training would have any impact on the fecundity of the females – I think we can chalk that up to a kisspop in the wrong time of the month. Ah, confounding factors. :) Perhaps my theory is more based on the last alpha couple video than anything else?
Hello again! I’ve become very interested in doing something similar to what you are doing with creatures 3/docking station, as it looks very fun! However, I am having trouble finding some of the mods I would like to use in order to make this possible. I’m not good enough with these to know what version of what I would need, or if I even have something that works right. Could you link me to the multiple eggs mod, the door invisible to norns mod, a metaroom good for the alpha test, and a nice big metaroom good for keeping my norns in (as I think they would quickly become crowded in the default)?
Also, I was wondering how you decided when the succession test should take place so all the norns have a good change.
I’m sorry for asking so much.
Malkin: I guess we’ll have to see what happens! I’m interested to see if this pattern continues throughout the next couple of generations. I’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on what happens. The introduction of the males to the females is purely random, though… Seems more like a coincidence than anything, but the next generation should help with this theory!
The Cheshire Cat: Hello! This world concept definitely is lots of fun, albeit a little stressful at times. That’s the fun of Creatures, though! Here are some links and information that should help you out with what you’re looking for:
Multiple Eggs: This is actually all accomplished with CAOS in-game. I went over four CAOS codes related to pregnancies and eggs Here.
Door and Button/Lift Hiders: These can be found Here towards the bottom.
Meta Room Suggestions: I’ve used a vast array of meta rooms, though there are certainly many that could be used! For the male alpha test, I found that the Norn Terrarium worked out pretty nicely. I really like the Biodome or Veridia as the setting for the main group. But, as I said, it’s really up to personal choice: With some modifications, pretty much any meta room can suffice!
As far as when the alpha succession test takes place, I always wait until the youngest Norn has become a youth. If any of the remaining generation is around at this point, I simply export them. Sometimes I’ll export these Norns a little earlier, if it’s clear that they won’t be breeding. Basically, so long as every Norn is capable of creating an egg, the alpha succession test should go well.
No need to apologize! I might just make a new guide to this world concept to make it easy for anyone to pick it up. Now that I’ve got the process finalized after a few additional tweaks, I’m a lot more confident with sharing it! In the beginning, I wasn’t even sure if this would work! Feel free to ask any questions: I’m happy to answer them if I can!
Discover Albia: Thank you so, so much! I’ll try to get all this working! Wow, Verida looks nice. It also led me to the garden box, which looks like another must have! No more dropping dead fish on fruit and hoping! This is going to be so much fun, and I never would have found this alone.
You’re very welcome! The Garden Box certainly is a must: It’s amazing and so useful! Amaikokonut never disappoints. I hope it turns out to be lots of fun for you, in addition to Veridia. Enjoy!
Hello Jessica. I’ve been searching a family tree visual for a long time -for my own family tree- During this time I like yours most. May I see other two that you mentioned above and have one with high resolution?
Apologies for the late reply! You should be able to see examples of my SpiderScribe family trees for both Creatures 1 and Creatures 3. Please keep in mind that these are pretty old, and the features of SpiderScribe have changed over time. There are likely other ways to customize everything! Hopefully this helps you out: Good luck!
