The Calm Before the Storm in C3/DS
Written onOn my return visit to Remniova, my C3/DS world, I had an enormous list of things to do. There were eggs to hatch, names to choose, marks to apply, agents to inject, and several details to be ironed out. Almost immediately, Brenlee and Nevorria kisspopped and added a layer of complexity to my plans! Luckily, this was a single pregnancy for Nevorria. Her last litter of three still needed to hatch, and here she was, running about with a rapidly growing tummy! I though the pregnancy rate in Creatures 1 was a little crazy, but this was absolute madness! After she laid her egg, I moved Brenlee to another area of C1toDS to prevent any more pregnancies, and to give me some free time.
The first egg cracked open to reveal a little female, whom I named Cadyla and immediately moved to the Norn Meso. I was far too busy to go into a genetics analysis: I figured I would save that for the future. As with her sisters, all of the alpha couple’s daughters would eventually be exported. They had made good company for the other females, though. Yet with so many, the food sources were dwindling and it was getting difficult to keep up with everyone. A mass export might not have been the ideal solution, but I planned on finding a home for the exported Norns… Perhaps in an entirely new world where they could thrive!
Another few minutes went by, and I welcomed a little male into Creatures 3/Docking Station. This bundle of joy was named Gontor, and he was brought to the learning room moments after birth. He might have held the record for the fastest time in making it to the Norn Terrarium: He sensed the door, and practically ran through it! Well, crawled was probably more accurate, but Gontor was on a mission! All of the other males were already making their homes in the Norn Terrarium. He had a little catching up to do, but he was determined to fit in!
Nevorria’s newest egg raced through its growth, and actually beat out the final egg from her last litter! This fast mover is Tinver. He spent some time running into the wall in the learning room, which is on the opposite side from the door. I worried for a moment that he had lost his bearings, and might be the first to have trouble moving to the Norn Terrarium. Tinver might not have been as quick as his brothers, but he soon traveled through the door and discovered a whole new world of other Norns and delectable food!
Finally, the last of the eggs hatched to reveal yet another male, whom I named Fewlin. He was the seventh male to begin the alpha male succession test, and also the twelfth child of Brenlee and Nevorria. I exported the alpha couple at that point, since they seemed lost without one another, yet I was not in favor of another pregnancy! Little Fewlin struggled to move away from the learning room, as he became fascinated with the door. Never fear: He, too, successfully made it to the Norn Terrarium!
According to the recent Facebook poll about the preferred breed for a new female, the Bondi and Hardman Norns tied. Since I introduced her a little late, I decided on a Hardman Norn named Saedra. A Bondi Norn will be introduced for the third generation, which should not take too long! Saedra was given the purple claw as her mark, and I also installed the Creature Nametags from Amaikokonut for easier identification… Both for myself, and Discover Albia readers! Saedra got on well in the Norn Meso, though she preferred to be alone.
One somewhat forgotten Norn was Seyon: When I named Saedra, I realized the name reminded me of someone! Seyon was still in the exact same spot where she had settled in long ago. She had plenty to eat, although she also slept like a professional. Even a visiting bird did not disturb her slumber! I was tempted to export her, yet I figured I would leave her the chance to breed one day. Maybe she could become the next alpha female: Brenlee simply might not have appealed to her. At least she was generally happy on her own.
Aside from Seyon, there were four females in the world and seven males. Although it might seem like the population was growing out of control, only one of the males would be able to stay in Remniova to become the alpha male. The others would be exported. For the following generations, I believe the alpha couple will be exported when they have produced between five and seven males. There is a chance that they might die before adulthood: Handar, the eldest, actually contracted an illness and began sneezing. Fortunately, he overcame it, but the youngsters are not necessarily safe in the Norn Terrarium.
It was now a waiting game. Once all of the females and males became fertile at the youth or adult stage, they would be brought together to determine the alpha couple. There were probably around twenty to thirty minutes of waiting before everything would become hectic! Which of these females would become the next alpha female? Would all of the males survive, and who would be the lucky one? The waiting would not be too long! Is there any interest in a video surrounding the determination of the next alpha couple? Post away!
I have an interest in watching a video of that. *raises hand*
-raises hand and flails it about wildly!-
A video should be up either tomorrow or the day after! Hopefully it will be interesting… It’s all up to these Norns!
Hi I have a question for you regarding the pictures you posted in this blog.
My question is this could you tell me how you were able to give your Norn’s the purple claw and other symbols such as the spiral and the sword?
Thank you for your time.
Great question! These marks are actually the pre-release of an agent from Amaikokonut that is still in the final testing phases. They also go hand-in-hand with another agent, which are auras. I use these as another way of customization, and to know at a glance who is who! I can definitely check to see the status of the marks and auras: I’ve had a couple of questions regarding them, and I can see why. They’re pretty awesome and fun to use! Thanks for asking! There should be a video featuring these marks in use posted tonight, by the way.
Hi again,
Firstly thank you for you taking the time to answer my question.
Secondly I really enjoyed watching your latest video where you used some of the marks to display the blue crown. I’m a hue fan of C1toDs and so pleased to see some real love for C1 being used in conjunction of docking station.
Now I have a few more questions for you.
As upon reading your answer I visited Amaikokonut blog and found creatures name tags, but couldn’t find any trace of Auras? Since you mentioned they are still in there final testing phase have the auras not been released to the general public yet?
Last question for now is this. In your latest video I noticed there was a + and – symbol next to where the regular menus and favourite place icons are. Could you please tell me what the + and – thing is and where I might be able to get it for my world?
Finally this isn’t so much of a question more of a suggestion and a huge request would it be possible for you to write a list of your essential agents that you add to your world to help you to run a wolfing run as I noticed in your video quite a few additional agents laying scattered through out your world.
And thank you once more for all your time and help regarding my question and suggestions as it is very much appreciated.
You’re very welcome! I’m also thrilled that you enjoyed the latest video: C1 is still my favorite, but having C1toDS really ties it in with the newer Creatures games. As for the marks and auras, you’re correct: They are not available for download quite yet. Amaikokonut is working on a big project at the moment, although these have not been forgotten! I imagine they will be available in the future, and I’ll be sure to post about the availability!
Ah, the + and – would be part of the new DS Favorite Places system. I have a link to this in my C3/DS YouTube videos. Actually, most of the agents and updated .cos files are listed there, although I do see the use in making a post directly here on the blog, too. I’ll take a look at everything, and see if I can come up with a helpful list of agents/tools/updates I use.
Feel free to ask any other questions, or comment about anything! Thanks again for stopping by and reading/watching the latest from Discover Albia!
Hello once more,
I really did enjoy your latest video and I fully agree with you on your comments about C1! C1toDs by far is my favourite addition to creatures 3 / docking station. The mix of past Albia’s meeting the present truly helps keep things interesting.
As for the marks and auras thank you for clarifying they are not currently available for download. I strongly look forward to there release in the future as judging by your video they are extremely useful.
Regarding the Ah, the + and – being part of the new DS Favourite Places system. I must thank you for telling me what they belonged too. And additional thanks are granted to you for directing me to the list of agents on your YouTube video. I must confess that up until now I never noticed that list before as I was watching the videos directly on your blog. Now here is where I have hit a snag. After following the links on your YouTube video I discovered that the New Signpost System is hosted on a forum which is closed for new registrations? http://ctopia.treesprite.com/index.php
So I can’t download the new signpost system. :(
Lastly I’m really looking forward to your list of helpful agents/tools/updates that you use. Although what you have listed on your YouTube videos are a great start!
I look forward to your reply.
Unfortunately, Creaturetopia has been closed to new registrations for some time. However, feel free to send me an e-mail through the address in the sidebar, and I would be happy to help you out! I also vaguely remember someone asking for something else a while back… If there is anything else in particular, just let me know! Thanks again for your comments and questions!
Hello again,
Please forgive me for taking such a very long time to write back to you.
But up until now I was unable to do so because I was away on a short canal boating holiday with some of my relatives.
So now that I’m back on dry land again I can continue our discussion about Creatures.
I feel that I must comment and commend you for how hard you’re working, as since I’ve been away you certainly have been a very busy little bee by posting several new entries and videos. And to my delight I saw in amongst your other entries that you have published your list of Essential Agents and Additions for Creatures Docking Station, of which I am extremely thankful for! :)
I especially liked the fact you took the time to comment about each agent as well as providing a help easy access link to each of site they are available from. This will make configuring my world so much easier and very streamlined.
And I deeply look forward to seeing in the future your C1 list too!
As even after all these years C1 is still very dear to my heart.
Now as for New Signpost System and Creaturetopia being closed to new registrations, I think I shall take you’re suggestion and contact you via email regarding acquiring the New Signpost System as I’m unable to register at Creaturetopia and download it myself sadly. So you can expect an email from you about this. :)

I hope you enjoyed your holiday! Great to have you back, though. Thank you for such kind words, as always! You should have an e-mail from me, if you have not already seen it. Hopefully it will help you out, but feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!
Ah, okay. Now I understand. Exportation of Alpha daughters appears to be waiting until they (or at least their playmates) mature.
You did cheat by moving the Alpha Male, though ;)
They have 12 kids, and you’re exporting all the daughters… Hmm. What happened to the 10/4 or 4/10 daughter/son ratio you’d mentioned? Seems you upped that later in the post. Interested in seeing how the new Alpha selection will go!
I also think the name-tags were a good choice, though since you don’t name by generation, I find it a bit confusing, even with the symbols. But then, I’m bad with names in Real Life.
I modified the world concept a few times, though this post was from last year. The rules should be a lot more clear presently! It took a little time to nail down all of the details, but I learned a lot along the way. If you’re having trouble following along with the Norns, feel free to take a look at the Creatures 3 Family Tree. It should provide a pretty good overview of who’s related to who!
