Mysterious C1 Cart Glitch
Written onI had the wonderful experience of going through a lock up in Creatures 1 today. I should have documented the errors, but of course, I figured that Albia could fix itself! No damage was done, aside from a very odd glitch. I found the cart that normally connects the desert island and the settlement chugging its way across the top of the eggs! Luckily, Norn eggs are impossible to crack: Even a strong Grendel could never ruin one. I was perplexed by this ghost cart! It also made the same noises it usually made while traveling beneath the ocean. Very interesting. It was either glitched, or dangerously possessed.
That cart kept on moving right along! Unfortunately, I hit one of the buttons and it stopped in its tracks right beneath the still. Now the cart is stuck, leaving a void between the desert island and the settlement. This is not the end of the world, since the track is used very sparingly. Both areas are also accessible from other means. I vaguely recall reading about this glitch, but I can’t locate a solution to the problem. Any thoughts? This also made me wonder what the Shee were thinking with these vehicles: Did they really expect them to run forever? Maybe the cart just needs a pit stop for some maintenance. Poor little cart.
I remember this happening to me! It got stuck in roughly the same place, though I don’t remember the details as this must be 12-14 years ago (yikes!). I don’t know of a resolution, as I used to just start new worlds for every generation (after hatching all eggs and documenting and exporting all baby norns), precisely to start fresh and get rid of any weird glitches that had appeared while playing the previous generation.
Glad to know I’m not alone with this glitch! I might eventually need to hatch and export each egg, and then start a new world. That’s actually a logical and useful plan: Especially since glitches are still very much possible! The Creatures 1 world isn’t too difficult to set up, either: It mostly involves moving around some food and toys, and injecting a handful of COBs. If no resolution is found, I’ll have to thank you for a wonderful suggestion of starting a new world!
No problem. Another thing we (my brother and I) did back then to make the world resetting process easier was to make a custom Eden.sfc. Just make a copy of the original Eden, then make a new world and set it up to your liking, then you get rid of the old Eden and rename World to Eden. Voila! Every new world you start will now have your prefered setup, including favourite places and COBs and everything. :)
Great suggestion, Tarlia! I never had thought of that before, but it’s an excellent idea. Thanks for sharing!
