The Colortrue Pearl Mermaid Norn Project
Written onA short time ago, I announced that I would be working on combining the idea behind Ylukyun’s Colortrue Norns with Spykkie’s Pearl Mermaid Norns. I was also inspired by Darby’s aquatic wolfling run in Creatures Docking Station, along with KittyTikara’s Colorific Mermaid Norns. After fiddling around with the pigment genes for ages, I was thrilled to spot this beautiful pink color variety! When bred, the Colortrue Pearl Mermaid Norns will have their colors mix together to create uniquely colored offspring. Standard Norns can only produce different colors through mutations, which are relatively rare. Other features of this genetic breed include:
- Amphibious Genes: True to form, the Colortrue Pearl Mermaid Norns will be able to live on land or in water.
- Chemical 63 Gene: Chemical 63 is present from birth, allowing these Norns to swim in underwater areas.
- Locked Appearance Genes: These can no longer mutate, since other sprites do not mix well with this breed.
- Unique Pigmentation: These Norns feature unique pigments, and also make use of pigment rotation and swap.
I was also very pleased with a green variety! The males for both of these colors also turned out very nicely, but the females looked so pretty with their multicolored fins. Finding colors that work for both males and females is a little difficult, but far from impossible! How many colors seems like a reasonable number to release? Are there any specific requests for colors? Or perhaps there are other updates needed for the genomes? I was hoping that this would be a pretty quick project, although it’s taking a little longer to complete. The Colortrue Pearl Mermaid Norns will be here very soon!
Very nice! The pink looks amazing. I think 4-6 colors is a good number to release. Think you could do a yellow and a cyan?
Thanks, Ylukyun! I would have copied over your pigments, but I wanted to put in a little of my own work… Since this project isn’t exactly unique or anything. Ha! Yellow was giving me a headache before, but I think I have it figured out. I also have a rather nice darker blue, yet cyan seems like it would fit in better. Releasing 4-6 sounds about right. I’ll also be including an uncolored version of them: They’ll still have the Colortrue Norn genetics and shouldn’t be mixed, but the original colors are so nice that I wanted to make sure they were included!
Aw man, a chill went down my spine when I saw them, they are gorgeous! The only necessary colors would be blue, red, and maybe yellow. Something that does need to be tweaked is how crowded they get. I’ve noticed that most of my Pearl Maids get in the habit of retreating all the time. A good place to start would be to nerf the “Heard Creature Speak” crowdedness increase. Plus, if I can be a little biased for a second, another tweak I would suggest is the organ from the Astro Tetras so they can lay eggs on their own easier, the rest of the edits on them really aren’t necessary.
Red was another color that was driving me crazy. Must mean it’s a good one! Ha ha! It took me a little while to find the gene you mentioned, but for my own reference, it’s number 394 the “Heard Creature speak – Stimulus.” When you take into account how talkative CFE Norns can be, the crowdedness is a disaster just waiting to happen! I can certainly remove that part, while leaving the other chemicals alone (since they make sense).
The organ from the Astro Tetras sounds very interesting and useful! I actually experienced this issue for the first time… Thought I had messed up the genome along the way when the females remained pregnant for an extended period of time. Definitely think I can work this in! Another name to add to the credits, but hopefully this is seen as a project to bring together some excellent elements, rather than just copying a bunch of ideas and throwing them together.
Thanks for the suggestions!
