Bird Watching in Albia
Creatures 1 has a very limited selection of plants and animals, all of which exist in a simple environment without an actual ecosystem. I realized that many of the inhabitants are often overlooked, or practically ignored by players… And that includes me! I took a step back from my world after an action-packed update to locate some of the critters in Albia. Naturally, I gravitated towards the birds! The trio in the garden completely slipped my mind, as I often pay little attention to them. They do actually move around in a pattern, though, which is lovely to watch for a few minutes. They might also be the hardest working animals in Creatures 1, as they flutter their wings constantly. It’s a shame they don’t travel around like some of the birds in Creatures 2 and Creatures 3!
Just down the garden path, I discovered a very different sort of bird. This one spends all its time in a beautiful little nest, never moving. How wonderful it might have been if this had been the spot where new baby birds were born and learned to fly! As with a lot of elements of Creatures 1, there is always the option of using the imagination. I really love the design of this nest, as well as the sprites used for the birds. They add such a small touch where they live in the garden, but there are a good deal of ambient bird cries! They certainly add to the natural atmosphere.
I accounted for four birds at that point, but I knew there were more! Finding the next one on this bird watching expedition took a little work scanning the Albian skies. There he was! This was another constantly moving critter who circled Albia endlessly. I love it when this little bird shows up, yet it’s a shame that he flies so very high. His flight is difficult to find when using a small window to play the game.
The time was just about right for me to leave the birds alone, when I found another one! Little did I know that there were actually two birds flying above Albia: I always assumed there was only a single one. These winged critters aren’t an integral part of Creatures 1, yet I find them to be one of the lovely, semi-hidden elements. Make sure to check those Creatures 1 skies and trees for a glimpse of these tireless inhabitants!
