A Creatures World Revival
Written onOne of the best features about the Creatures games is how a world can be resumed at any point, as if no real time passed at all. As I jumped back into my Creatures 1 world, Krathlaysi sensed that she had been in a state of stasis for a little longer than usual! Her most recent memory was how she was struggling with the aftereffects of hootch. It was either her excitement to see me again, or a very familiar green can, that set her off into a run! Silly Krathlaysi! Amazingly, she ran right on by the hootch, determined to spread the word of the hand’s return.
Perhaps the most exciting news from the last Creatures 1 update was how Hybralvao was expecting the very first egg of this generation! Her maternal instincts kicked in when she adopted Losthrayte. That little Norn headed off on her own quite quickly, though, which left Hybralvao with a little hole in her heart. When she quietly laid her egg away from the chaos of everyday Norn life, she tenderly watched over it. The moment was a little more comical when I realized that she wanted to serve the egg some hootch… Not exactly the best idea, but Hybralvao was at least trying to give her unborn baby whatever was at hand!
Meanwhile, the first father-to-be of this generation did exactly what he did best: Sleep! Hleengar was safe over the summer, but with the holidays quickly approaching, he must have felt the pressure of being a Santa Norn around December! Without his new partner around, he was a little lost as to what constituted a supportive male Norn. Hybralvao laid her egg without any trouble, though, so Hleengar was free to pursue his early winter sleep!
The eldest Norn of the bunch, Athahain, was still practically rooted to the same spot. Long ago, she turned into a solitary soul, which was not a bad thing. My only concern for her was the loneliness. However, Nildeleer turned into a surprising companion! My Norns and Grendels have almost always gotten along, yet it was pleasantly surprising to find Athahain enjoying the company of a slightly tiresome Grendel. The desert island was just as popular as I remembered it, though it seemed like the majority of my Norns were saving their vacations for later on. What could the others be up to?
I most remembered Brekennion for his rivalry with Hleengar. Those two were practically fighting all the time when they were younger! Hleengar was taking to his adult life with a certain poise and wisdom. Brekennion, on the other hand, decided that the best way to enjoy the shower was to place his eye directly on the spout. Perhaps I should have been thankful that he had the smarts to close his eye first! The underground tunnel area was quite a popular spot, and he wanted to make sure he had a unique territory that Hleengar wouldn’t be too likely to find anytime soon. Judging by the Santa Norn’s penchant for naps, I was pretty sure that Brekennion would be the only male in his area for awhile!
One Norn gave me a little cause for concern, and that was Losthrayte. She seemed far more inclined to look at all of the food items and instruments around her, yet she barely touched anything. However, I forgot about her special stimuli gene mutation that decreases her boredom when she doesn’t do anything. Looking at the harp let Losthrayte’s imagination spirit her away!
In just a matter of minutes, I discovered that Nildeleer was no longer the tiny baby Grendel I had come to know her as. When she discovered this change, she did the only thing she knew how to do: Grab ahold of Dahloi and chase him about! Luckily for him, he was off in Grendel dreamland and had a short respite before he awoke to Nildeleer’s incessant remarks about how tall she was. There was no escape for Dahloi anymore! He could no longer outrun the only other Grendel unless he tried really hard and got a little crafty. That could happen…
All was well in my world! It took some time for me to remember some of the special characteristics about certain Norns, yet I was surprised at how easily I could jump back in after nearly four months away from the world. Hybralvao poetically settled down near the fire for a cozy nap, content with her new egg and the fact that Albia could continue on as usual. I was just about to wave goodbye to everyone for the time being, when another inhabitant of the world frantically made an appearance. Who had I forgetten to greet?
Oh, hello! The poor denizens of the antigen world were cooped up for so long, and they suddenly stirred to life. The unfortunate victim of their diabolical entrance was Brekennion. I panicked momentarily, since he developed a contagious cough while he was within the vicinity of Krathlaysi. This illness was very minor, though, and lasted just a few minutes. Thanks for that, antigen 6! I doubted if the antigens were truly appeased, though.
Brekennion recovered from his illness quickly, although he completely ignored my advice about resting. I fancied he developed a headache of sorts from his exhaustion. When a very rude bee started to buzz around his head, he told that little flying insect just what it should do! And thus concluded my adventures upon returning to Creatures 1. All of my Norns and Grendels were in excellent health, and there was very little I forgot about. It certainly was wonderful to be back in the land of Creatures again! Expect more frequent updates in the near future again!
