A Waning Creatures 1 Population
Written onAs much as Zelroo wasn’t impressed with the way Preetar used his courting instinct gene, the two were soon expecting a new baby Norn! I peeked into the new genome, as I do with everyone, and found that this one had a strange genetic mutation. Normally, a decrease in need for pleasure (NFP) reacts with the NFP chemical and produces reward, signaling that a Norn is doing a good job in decreasing a drive. This unusual Norn would not produce reward chemical from this reaction… He or she would produce starch! Theoretically, a tickle from me would actually feed him or her. Very odd!
With another impending baby, life started to settle in around Preetar. Before he knew it, his eyelids were drooping and he was a shriveled old Norn! I had to laugh at him a little bit, since he went straight for the lift in a hunched over gait. Thankfully, the little beehive logo obscured part of his detached foot. My goodness! For all of Preetar’s faults, though, he was a really fun Norn to have around. At least his constant lift rides kept him occupied enough to avoid slapping anyone else!
I took some time to spend with old Pfeffablel, who made it back to the island via the submarine. She ate a whole lot of honey, smiled at me, and started playing ball with me. We were having a wonderful time as it bounced all around, when suddenly… Pfeffablel was no more. At 10 hours and 44 minutes old, she decided that her time was up. Although I thought she was a pretty friendly Norn, there were only four eggs that were all hers. I would always remember Pfeffablel and how she got me laughing over her transformation into a Cart Norn! Farewell, little Norn, and may you rest in peace.
My Creatures 1 world was down to just three Norns. It was at this time that an antigen decided to attack, and it chose the pregnant Zelroo as its target. Bad decision, antigen 5! There was no way I would lose two Norns at the same time. Preetar was also in danger of getting infected, yet I whisked Zelroo off before the antigen could jump onto him. This one was an ugly one, boasting two unknown toxins and histamine A. Zelroo was far too smart and strong to let it do much damage, though. She obediently ate some carrots and honey, while her immune system sent the bacteria packing. Take that, illness! She was well on her way to recovery before she laid her egg, and all was right in Albia again. Only Pfeffablel was missing, although I wondered if maybe she was watching over Zelroo.
A Norn that will feed himself/herself when you tickle him/her? Weird! But at least you won’t have trouble feeding him/her. Maybe you should have him/her in the next generation!
As much as I would love to not have to worry about feeding a Norn, this is one mutation I wouldn’t want to enter the population. It could lead to a very confused Norn who was a terrible eater, and that could lead to more generations of the same issue. That could turn out quite badly! I’m usually pretty strict with the Norns I choose for each generation, mainly for the fact that I want to ensure that this population can continue on. There are some odd mutations mixed in there, yet I try to stay away from ones like this one that would seriously change the way Norns live. We’ll have to see how the next generation’s genetic mutations end up mixing together!
