The Young and Old of Albia

Though my Creatures 1 world had been going on for quite some time, it seemed like everyone would remain youthful forever. As with all good things, though, it had to come to an end. Coll showed the first signs of old age while he spent some time with Fflewddur and Eilonwy in the garden. He was not the oldest in terms of minutes, but he had lived a very stressful life. Not eating was one thing guaranteed to make those gray hairs sprout a little early! At least he could hide his old appearance behind those charming eyes.

To keep the population somewhat youthful, I decided to hatch another egg in all of the chaos! This pretty little female is Henwen, daughter of Bringsli and Nordmela. She brought a little more variety into the gene pool, but she also possessed no major genetic mutations. Although some might classify Henwen as boring, I was thrilled to have her join the others! Hopefully her standard genes would help stabilize future generations to some degree. It never hurts to have a minimally mutated Norn in the population. She was one happy little lady!

Time flew by, and in no time Gwydion was a happy adult Norn! He still had difficulty with many tasks, but I was happy to offer him a little assistance from time to time. He was not like the others, who often got hung up on one activity for far too long. Gwydion would also help take the place of the aging males, who were slowly becoming infertile. In fact, new egg production had completely stopped. It was a nice breather for everyone to take in the peaceful Albian air, and just enjoy a slow pace of life.

Dallben was the next to fall victim to gray hair! He felt himself shrink, ever so slightly, as his bones began to creak. Like Coll, he also was a difficult Norn who refused to eat and sleep when I knew it would have benefited him. Dallben had made a new friend in Doli, but my silly Norn seemed rather stupefied by his new friend’s older appearance! I could only imagine what Doli would do in old age… Probably stick with his same old goofy antics, only with a little more silver and gray! I just dreaded the time when it would be time to start to say goodbye to these wonderful Norns.
