A New Beginning for Discover Albia
As much as I will miss the original Albia and all of its inhabitants, I am very excited to turn over a new leaf and restart Creatures 1! Look at this little guy just starting to peek out of his egg! Sticking true to my original goal, this new world will be relatively simple with the focus on enjoying what began my love for the Creatures games. However, there are some vital additions I felt I could not leave out, aside from the official patches and updates. I highly recommend utilizing the following third party downloads when creating a new Creatures 1 world. There are always many more to try out, though I suppose these are my old reliable standbys!
Edited Hatchery Genetics: Created by Kezune, these updated genetics fix the immortality and antioxidant issues with the Norns and Grendels. In other words, Creatures can die of old age as they were originally intended to do.
Sprite Fix for Female White Haired Pixie Norns: Created by Lis Morris, this updates the sprite file for female White Haired Pixie Norns so that their heads sit properly on their shoulders.
Sprite Fix for Male Purple Mountain Norns: Created by Norngirl, this updates the sprite files for male Purple Mountain Norns so that their inner ears remain pink and eyes remain vivid blue when facing forward. Originally, these features took on the appearance of male Horse Norns.
Grendel Machine Gender Changer: Created by Kinnison and suggested by Grendel Man, this includes three different downloads so that the Grendel egg-layer can create both male and female Grendels.
Grendel Settings: Created by Kinnison, this addition allows Grendels to be friendly when they want to be. The original coding made Grendels aggressive, whether they mean to push or pull another Creature. Grendels and Norns can ultimately coexist peacefully, at long last!
Multiple Grendel Selector COB: Created by Slink, this addition allows one or more Grendels to be selected. The various kits can be used, although Grendels do not appear in the Observation Kit.
Are there any other recommended updates for Creatures 1? I’m still on the lookout for a few more to add to the new and upcoming world. I still have a bit of planning to go, but definitely keep an eye out for an introduction to the new Albia in the very near future! Thanks to everyone for the wonderful comments! I’m so glad to be back! Also, here is the original loading screen image. I believe the newer image was released with the patched versions of Creatures 1, because I remember seeing this image originally. Thanks to Pirate-Rob for inspiring me to dig a bit deeper!

WOOT! So when is the first “episode”?
Yes! I can’t wait!
I was hoping to start a new world today, but with a few last minute projects for work, my guess is that the first introduction to the new world will be sometime between the 22nd and 28th. I wish there were more hours in a day and more days in a week! I’m so excited to get started! Just need to have a name list ready, and to prepare the world a little bit. I hope the new Albia will be one that everyone will enjoy reading about and discovering! Thank you again for all of the positive feedback!
Unless i am just remembering wrong but the picture of the norn looks slightly different to what i remember.
Thanks for pointing this out, Pirate-Rob! I went through the images in the main folder, and found the original loading screen image. I remember seeing this one a lot more than the current one. I kind of like the darker eyes, although it’s pretty clear that not too much changed from one image to the other. Ha ha!
I believe there’s a COB running around somewhere that lets you decide if the Grendel Mother lays male, female, or random eggs. I can’t remember where I found it, but if you can find it the run might be made a little spiffier.
Anyway, nice to see that the updates will be running again. While I rarely play C1 any more, it does help me get motivated for my own WRs by reading about someone else’s Creatures experiences.
Wewt! Awesome to see you back, Jessica!
Thank you for the great suggestion, Grendel Man! I added the Grendel Machine Pre-Sexer to my list and world. Looks like I would have been stuck with all male Grendels, and we would have missed out on the wonderful female Grendels! Thanks for reading, and I hope your wolfing runs go very well!
Hi Liam! I’m probably way too excited to be back, but I just can’t help it! This community is awesome, and I can’t say enough great things about it. Thanks for all your work with the CCSF, too!
Hello! I was wondering if you knew where I could download the edited hatchery genetics? I tried to download them from creaturetopia, but I wasn’t able to sign up to the forums.
So this is Discover Albia Season 2? Epicsauce!
Exactly, Chip! This should actually be a short season and world, as this was around the time when I was having some serious laptop issues. There is one more world restart after this one. Amazingly, I’m still sticking with it, although my progression through the generations is slower than slow! It helped me feel quite connected to these Norns, though. Perhaps you’ll consider picking up a couple from CreatureLink in the future!
Sorry for commenting here, but the C4 forums are down, and I was just wondering if there was a place to get the COBs listed here? It seems the links are either broken or require an account to be created.
Also, do you know of any COBs that allow Norns and Gendels to mate? When I get around to installing my C1 game, I plan to populate the world with Dragon Norns, which I think would mesh well with Gendels. :)
Many of the Grendel COBs are available at Creatures Caves, where they were recently uploaded. Keep in mind that this post is from over two years ago, so old links like these are not always reliable! I suggest asking around Creatures Caves if you’re in search of something in particular!
As far as I know, there is no way to mix Norns and Grendels in Creatures 1. What you can do, however, is to download the Grorns! This allows you to create a Norn with a Grendel appearance, thus allowing those sprites to be mixed in with other Norns. It might not be entirely ideal (especially since Grorns sound like Norns) but it could be just what you need for your Dragon Norn/Grendel crosses!
