Growing Up in Albia
Wyrrd slumped down with the trumpet to have some very serious thoughts. I felt the same way as she probably did: Albia had somewhat stagnated with a steady population, and no new pregnancies had come along in a long while. This was a blessing in disguise, however, since every Norn now had the chance to receive a good deal of attention. Everyone was able to just relax and enjoy life without the stress of kisspopping all the time. I tried to let nature take its course, but I simply had to play a very active role in Albia!
Auja was thrilled about the extra love and attention! Her happiness came forth in the way of a little tap dance with her one foot. The curl on her forehead looked quite adorable, although I noticed how dark her eyelashes were. Most of the female Norns in Creatures 1 have very dark lashes, which somewhat clashes with their neutral colors. At least Wyrrd did not come along to share her makeup advice with Auja! That might have been a funny way to change her appearance. Perhaps it’s a good thing that Norns have no way of actually playing with makeup!
Oh, Dvalin! How I loved finding him near the eggs. There were a total of seven, all lined up in a fancy row. Perhaps they were all lined up too perfectly… I hovered the hand briefly above Dvalin, and he proceeded to pick up the nearest egg and hold it up as high as his little Grendel arms could reach! How cute: It was almost as if he was trying to share it with me, or tell me that it was about time a new baby Norn hatched. More about that very shortly! I took the hint from him to heart, and made sure he placed the egg down as gently as he could manage.
The Deathcap Mushroom appeared to be the place to be, out of all the locations in Albia. Freya had tasted the strange weed, and everyone figured out that traveling down the lift was more exciting than going up. Thor enjoyed having some peace and quiet in this dark, somewhat sinister spot. He seemed a bit out of sorts after spending time with everyone: Perhaps he had been depressed since he has yet to meet his first child. That deadly weed offered no comfort, and at least he had the sense to mull things over in his head.
Wyrrd ended up finding some excitement in Dvalin. The two looked at each other for a long while, and ended up kissing a few times. I encouraged the friendliness, since Dvalin had been scorned so many times by Freya. I forgave her long ago, yet whenever the chance comes up for Dvalin to meet someone new, I often jump upon the opportunity! I also thought that Wyrrd matched the Flibberty-Gibbet quite well, in some ways.
Someone felt quite content and tired after romping about the world! Dvalin found a ball to carry along, and ended up falling asleep on his ride through the swampy tunnel beneath the garden. He was headed off in the direction of the hootch again, but I never had refilled the cans. It might even be worthwhile to keep them completely hidden: I might break out a can or two every now and then, but no one will experience hootch as Dvalin did! Luckily, the effects of alcohol left Dvalin’s system long ago. This was just one of those sleepy moments when I captured him looking as adorable as ever.
Loki had the grand idea to pick up an egg and carry it off to his brother, Baldur! The two observed the large, pale green object for a few minutes. It seemed like Freya had started a new fashion trend with the egg suit! I have yet to see a creature attempt to eat one of the eggs: They seem content with just parading them around. It was a comical sort of sight, and Baldur was a little hesitant to follow the latest fashion trend. Another hint for me!
With so many eggs piled up and very few pregnancies, I installed the 24 Norn COB. However, I will be capping the population at just ten Norns, although this will still be plenty! With several Norns quickly approaching the elder life stage, I believe there will be a lot of room for these eggs soon enough! It is a bittersweet thought, though. One usually never wants a Norn to die, yet death ushers in a place for new life to begin. Philosophy, science, and entertainment: That is, indeed, Creatures!

Can i just say how in love i am with Dvalin?! What a sweet little Grendel! I love how intrigued he is with the eggs – on that note – i may need your help!
How do you get an egg to not hatch once it has been produced by a Norn?
I watched one of my norns have an egg and i tried clicking on it hoping i would have ‘tainted’ it, but i couldn’t touch it, even after it was just produced. This is causing a little stress as i have already had to have 2 young ones hatch naturally shortly after each other, but another egg has also just been produced (you naughty Norns!) and i don’t seem to have enough time to give everyone – especially the new borns – a good deal of attention with all the births! Do i need a COB to do this?
I’ve also thought about blogging after you mentioned it.. maybe i will start a blog very soon! :)
@Jen: You can’t pick up the egg before it’s reached its full size. Then, you need to hurry to pick it up before it starts hatching. When you pick the egg up, the fetus inside will stop visibly moving, and it’ll be frozen until placed in the incubator.
I’m excited to see more babies! I haven’t had any luck with that cob before, it made my world crash last I tried it. D:
Thanks, Jen! Dvalin is a sweetheart, and continues to prove that Grendels are just as lovable as Norns! Tarlia is correct about the eggs. They can only be moved when they reach full size, unfortunately. However, I’ve been using the egg freezing trick for quite some time, and I think I only missed one egg out of around twenty or so.
Tarlia explained it very well: You need to wait until the egg grows to its largest size, and you can see a little shadow moving around inside. Be warned that you need to be quick, but I believe there is a good 10-15 seconds before the birthing process begins. Still, not a lot of time!
Along that train of thought, always stop eggs from hatching when you have 11 Norns in the world. When there are 12 Norns in the world, it is not even possible for females to get pregnant. I recommend freezing all eggs when you have 11 Norns, along the incubator will not open again until there are 7 or less Norns.
Thanks for the explanation, Tarlia! I hope the COB doesn’t cause any issues: I know that if there are 15 or more Norns, the game naturally has problems. I don’t think it will be a problem just so I can get up to 10 Norns: It’s mainly just to open up that blasted incubator! Ha ha!
Looking at that picture of Dvalin I imagine him walking along, picking up each egg and inspecting it, but it seems he isn’t falling for the latest fashions! :)
I think your norns should have a beauty contest. I think Wyrrd would win. Dvalin would come in second place.. wait what? A grendel in a norn beauty contest?! He’s just special that way :D
Woo! Finally caught up with the backlog of blog posts. Only taken a week or so.
So happy to see you posting again. I’d thought your spout of C1 had reached an end. Great that it hasn’t, as it’s inspiring me to get back into C2 and start working on my Creatures remake game again.
Darren, I can just imagine what you’ve thought of regarding Dvalin! He seemed to not want to wear one of the eggs, like a lot of the Norns do, but wanted me to put one in the incubator. It would have been hilarious if he went down the line to each egg!
Ha ha, Kittie! Dvalin certainly can compete with the Norns in terms of beauty and cuteness! That reminds me of the card in Monopoly when you win $10 for placing second in a beauty contest. Ha! In some ways, I believe Dvalin thinks he is a Norn: Who wouldn’t when they spend most of their life with them?
It’s great to hear that you’re all caught up, Arch! Thank you so much for the kind comments and support! I enjoy your blog, as well, and look forward to seeing your next update! I have been thinking of starting worlds in C2 and/or C3/DS, but taking a more top-level approach. My attachment is reserved for C1… Yet one never knows. Those Norns, Grendels, and Ettins are sometimes completely lovable!
Thank you and Tarlia!! – Gee, i am so silly haha! Hopefully i will catch this next egg if i watch it like a hawk!
And i agree that Dvalin could potentially win something in a Norn beauty contest haha <3
I would like to put my comment in the form of some form of bleak prose, if I may…
Dvalin stares at the eggs, all lined in a neat row. He shiver with anticipation. Looking over at the first egg, he notices something. A feeling. A tugging at the strings of his heart, as if he can feel the next generation arriving…
“About time,” he concludes.
In regular-comment mode again, this is great! You’ve got yourself a big fan here.
