Lost Luck in Creatures Docking Station
Each of the previous Norn generations was filled with diversity and a good bit of luck. I figured I would need to make many adjustments in the world concept rules, yet nothing led me to believe that the scenario world needed any changes. Luck just wasn’t on my side anymore, though! Simteo and Caeriv had four eggs ready to hatch, and another female popped out of the first one. I sighed as I exported Hisha: Would there really be a limited number of possible alpha males for the next generation? I crossed my fingers as another egg began to crack…

It was nice to see a Norn without a Hardman Norn, yet Ilvanna was another female, destined for the exported folder of Norns. Oddly enough, the Zebra Norn head looked like it certainly wasn’t going to be dominant for much longer. It’s actually interesting that it’s stayed around for so long: The original first generation male, Brenlee, was the original Zebra Norn. It was hard not to see him in these Norns!
Luck pretty much laughed in my face when Jexinba emerged from her egg. She, too, took on the characteristic Hardman Norn head, but was given the wrong gender at the last second. I let her play around in the tree house in Veridia for about a minute… Might as well give her a little fun before she found herself digitally shelved for a time! Exportation was her lot in life, though. One egg from the alpha couple remained. Would my luck really be as terrible as it could get?
Keersho was a nice present, and someone very much needed in the world! He had the exact same appearance as his older brother, Dizor, yet they differed slightly in terms of their genetics. I was just happy to have another male, and even more importantly, a playmate for Dizor. Out of eight children, Simteo and Caeriv had only produced two males. It looked like it could simply end up being a competition between Dizor and Keersho if things didn’t turn around soon.
The immediate reaction might be a happy one at the sight of all of these males. Ladlor, Mantig, and Noddim were adorable little ones, and Ladlor even had a non-Hardman head! Unfortunately, these were not the children of the alpha couple, but were those of Amanora. Having triplets seemed to give her a fair chance of having at least one daughter to carry on her genetics, yet it was not meant to be. Her full sister, Wynda, still had a chance to carry on their line, yet this was only the second time that a female’s line had come to an end.
It wasn’t long before Levia began to look a little different… She made me laugh when she expressed her dislike for the alpha female with a mysterious smirk. She was pregnant with quadruplets, and it looked like my luck had finally returned! Yet as I looked at the genetics of these unborn Norns, my heart sank. They were all identical and had not inherited Levia’s pigment swap mutation. Would it be cheating to keep her around and hope for better luck next time? The better solution seemed to be to bring her into a new world: One with a little more luck!

recently i had a run of bad luck with my new alpha males as well. there was only one born and the rest were all females
Levia will be the anchor for a new world, unless I decide at the last minute to let her breed again. Favoritism? Yes, indeed! We’ll see how flexible the parameters seem to be when it comes time for that decision. Sounds like we’re both in a bit of a rut. Hopefully luck will return for both us very soon!
I wonder if this sort of bad luck is a curse on the Creatures bloggers? I’ve been hesitant in typing up my most recent visit into The Beginning because, well… of seven eggs hatched, only four of which should have been laid at all, they’re all male. All of them! I’ll have to add some new female Generation 1 norns to the mix to keep it going to Generation 4, my goal.
Levia has a lovely appearance and I’m not surprised she’s a favourite! It’s sad that she hasn’t passed her pretty colouring on but at least she still has the chance to preserve some of her genes. We can only hope that her line doesn’t end with her.
Seems like it’s a curse lately! Ha ha! Our luck is bound to turn around at some point… Ideally, that will be sooner rather than later. Levia has a pretty good chance of having a few daughters. Even if her coloring isn’t passed along, she has the unique Fallow Norn body to be passed down. At least, I hope that was included with her identical quadruplets!
That’s some luck there. I’ve already had two Bloodlines that have ended. The Blue Cookie Zebra has two sons and the Pink Spiral Butterfly was absorbed into the Green Crown Bloodline through marriage ;)
