An Update About Gameware and Creatures
The news looked a bit grim when the Gameware Development domain expired at the end of May, although I provided a few reasons why this wasn’t the end of the world. Yet I did get worried for a bit… I’ve been pestering Gameware Europe quite often, yet it paid off! I received a response to a post on Facebook today with some excellent news about the downloads and articles: “We are in the process of restoring the Creatures historical assets and delivering them via the Creatures pages on the Gameware Europe website. Regards!”
So although everything is still currently unavailable, Gameware Europe is in the process of making things accessible once again! I’ll be sure to update everyone when that time comes. I also slipped in a question about the Creatures Mall breed packs, as it would be lovely to get an updated official stance on how those can be shared. We’ll see! I do appreciate that Gameware is going to maintain all of the old assets, especially since Creatures still attracts new players!
Remember that publicly hosting Creatures downloads may only be done with the express written consent of Gameware Europe. Although it is a little frustrating to find downloads right now, things look like they will return! Some downloads and articles can be found in archived versions of the site. As tempting as it might be to post everything, remember that Gameware Europe still owns the rights to Creatures. It’s very kind of them to continue hosting everything. Hopefully there will be more news very soon, and we’ll be able to enjoy all of the old Creatures stuff again!

WOOHOO! The site closed down just as I was getting back into creatures.
I’m excited that it’s all going to come back, too! I never backed up a lot of downloads I wanted to, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity. Plus, all of the old articles are really awesome for explaining a lot of Creatures concepts. It’s also great to hear about someone else getting back into Creatures! Hopefully everything will be back up and running shortly!
I was really into it about 2007-2010. I used to watch my mom play c1 before that, but I didn’t get it at the time. I got the C12DS metaroom and had loads of fun. Finally got the whole series when GOG had it for free two years ago.
Creatures 1 is actually a pretty challenging game, full of frustration! But I’ve always found that it’s worth it. I got C1 for my birthday in the late 90s from my family: Seems like a lot of players can tie in their Creatures experience with relatives! GOG really is a great place to pick up the games: They’re very stable, and pretty much the only versions that work on modern operating systems. Glad to hear you’re enjoying all of the games now!
