To Glitch, or Not to Glitch: A Creatures Dilemma
In the midst of the excitement of putting together another C3/DS video, my game took a turn for the worse. I’ve been experiencing many oddities for months, such as not being able to use the wolf controls in any new worlds and having the game freeze while trying to save and quit. To say that this is frustrating is a gross understatement! My worlds are now wonderfully slow, to the point that the lag is extremely noticeable. Not exactly a prime target for a Creatures video! A complete reinstall is definitely in order, which has me petrified. I would hate to lose my hard work in setting up my main world, yet the glitches and serious issues have simply compounded. For a lack of another solution, I’m going to be focusing on Creatures 1 and some of my other projects for now. Creatures 3 and Docking Station will not be abandoned, though! I just need a break from the problems, and a little extra time to export the current population, reinstall, and setup a new world. I suppose this will be a good thing… In the end! Oh, glitches, where would we be without you?

Wow, sorry to hear about your trouble. That must really suck. I hope the exporting and setting up a new world will go smoothly. I think I can empathise! You haven’t seen it yet but my DS Challenge has turned into a disaster. XP
Yeah, I’m sure a fresh new world will be a nice change. I’ve always enjoyed reading along with your C1 world. Please feel free to take as long as you need. I’ll still be reading along no matter what! :)
Thanks so much, SpringRain! I’m a little nervous about trying out a new install and whatnot… I’m worried that the issues will still be there. Then again, I’m also in a rather lazy mood lately. Ha ha! I’ve missed my C1 Norns and Grendels, though, and I really enjoy the more personalized feeling one gets from playing with them. I’ve still never gotten truly attached to anything outside of Creatures 1. Maybe I’m just heavily biased, though! I look forward to your comments, and I’ll definitely be following along with your C1 and C3/DS worlds at your wonderful blog!
It is possible to make a backup of your worlds. Just save out the folder you want from your “My Worlds” folder.
It may still be a delicate operation though. If you have special agents injected you’ll need to make sure you’ve reinstalled those before starting your world again. Also, just reusing the world may not fix the problem, depending on exactly what the issues are.
Still, definitely worth a shot if you don’t want to set up a world again.
As I’m sure you already know, export your creatures before doing any of this!
Thanks for the tip, ArchDragon! I’ve been trying out copies of this particular world to see if that would clear anything up, but no luck so far. I have a feeling I’m going to need to set up a new world again, though it should still be pretty fun! I’ll be making extra copies of all exported Creatures, just in case. Hopefully I’ll get around to reinstalling C3/DS soon, though I’m rather obsessed with C1 at the moment!
It might be a problem in your cosfiles if it happens to every new world.
Also don’t lose any special agents that can’t be obtained anymore. Its a pain when that happens.
I’m pretty sure you’re right, Doringo, though I’m not entirely sure where to start with that. I’ll be backing up everything, including files I may not need. Like you said, it’s a pain finding agents that can’t be found anywhere, and I’m hoping that won’t happen!
