A Norn’s Way of Growing Old and Youthful
There were plenty of aging Norns in my world, as evidenced by the balding Norn named Mayth! I hadn’t realized how old my Norns were getting until I started paying attention to what was going on. Brekennion suddenly sported some gray hair at his temples, although his reaction was all happiness! He was a very well educated Norn who had traveled far and wide across Albia. There was no shame in getting a little older! In fact, Brekennion was celebrating his role as father-to-be, once again. He did so by emptying an entire honeypot! I had no complaints: He was very independent, and needed no help taking care of himself.
A new egg appeared near the lemon trellis, and it was actually Krathlaysi who laid it! It wasn’t that long ago that she laid her first egg. Apparently she was very excited about all of these maternal instincts! With a rapidly aging population, one might have assumed that I was ready to crack open a new egg. However, I was actually having a very hard time keeping everyone happy and well fed. Their zest for eating was practically gone, which gave me a new full-time job! The final two members of this generation would arrive soon enough, but I didn’t want to throw them into this crazy mix just yet. I was starting to think “push food” all the time, and not just while playing Creatures!
The early life of Athahain was fairly lonely, culminating with a bitter friendship and split. Since that time, she had grown up more, and was much happier with other Norns. Another round of congratulations were in order, for she and Brekennion had a new egg on the way! It was interesting how Krathlaysi and Athahain seemed to be linked together in terms of eggs. Or the case might have boiled down to how the other females were very caught up in other life activities! At one point I worried about the next generation. With sixteen eggs and counting, though, the crisis was easily averted.
One sort of trouble that could no longer be ignored was the violence that erupted between Preetar and Hleengar. The two met up during the former’s narrow escape from an illness, and they appeared to be buddies right from the start. Soon enough, I started to notice an unusually high frequency of slaps emanating from their vicinity. Their rivalry was so bad, in fact, that neither could do anything! Food was foreign, traveling anywhere was out of the question, and taking their eyes off one another was impossible. I couldn’t even separate them long enough to do any good! This odd behavior was going to require my utmost attention, and fast.
