The Many Sources of Happiness in Albia
Written onWith the population pretty much at its maximum, less time is needed to bring up new baby Norns. Admittedly, I adore the new youngsters, but it can get pretty tiresome trying to guide each one through the first few minutes of life! It’s interesting to see how each Norn acts differently, and I’m finding it a bit easier to find out more about each resident.
Some may remember Noric as being a difficult eater early on, mainly due to my mistakes with using “get food” instead of “push food.” He seemed to be very excited after finding some honey! This happened after he stayed in one position for about 10 minutes. It was like a temporary paralysis, where he stared and stared at the lift buttons. Fortunately, he came out of his trance once he saw the honey pot! Interestingly enough, Noric seems much happier when he’s around other Norns. Perhaps his temporary paralysis was brought on by a lack of social interactions.
Diren suddenly showed an excessive amount of joy while hanging out on the island! Of course, he had been given a shower of carrots just moments before, but he really prefers to explore on his own. Groups just don’t seem to appeal to him for some reason. However, that makes him stand out as an excellent eater and listener! Visits from me are most appreciated, and he sure has grown up since being the first natural birth in Albia! Diren made a name for himself and ensured that he would never fade away into the background of a crowd.
A giant smile is usually not far behind the honey pot, and Evria proved this quite well! She was not enjoying herself with the rest of the group, of which about 7 Norns are concentrated right now. It’s been difficult to separate them out to see who actually wants to be part of a large group, and who is simply being distracted. Evria also enjoyed playing with the computer again: She has been present for many of the young Norns’ lessons, and is something of a teacher to them. It’s quite nice to see her enjoy educating others, or at least being around to brush up on her lessons!
Finally, I noticed that Adria, who had ventured off on her own, was sleeping quite a lot. She wasn’t ill, though, and I was puzzled for a while. Look closely, though, and you’ll notice that she has an empty container of hootch in her hands! I think this rest was more of a drunken nap, but seeing how she was full of carrots beforehand, it was a very satisfying nap! Adria has often been self-sufficient, and even when she wanders off alone, I don’t have to constantly worry about her. It’s a far cry from what often happens with some Norns!
I’ve noticed that many Norns spend a good deal of time going up and down lifts. However, from the limited observations I’ve made in the various kits, the activity doesn’t seem to do anything for relieving need for pleasure. Why, then, is it so popular? I plan on digging a bit deeper, unless I’m completely wrong about it having no effect on need for pleasure. Maybe those green buttons are simply irresistibly mesmerizing!
The C1 happy face is the best, it puts me in a good mood. I love the banana norns especially, the floppy ears become almost an extension of their smile. :)
Can’t say for certain, but I know lift buttons reduce boredom in C3 Norns. They just can’t seem to get enough of them.
Those happy faces are contagious! I hate it when I miss out on snapping a photo of the expression. You’re right about the floppy ears extending the smile, Tarlia: I can’t help but smile right back at them sometimes! The worst is the sad face, though, since Norns looks so very despondent. It would have been nice to have a neutral expression, and save the enormous frowns for when Norns are really sad.
Arch, I believe you’re right about the lifts in Creatures 3: Seems like the game programmers caught on to the fact that Norns who spent so much time pushing those buttons had to be getting something out of it! Especially since many Norns can actually spend a good deal of their lives traveling up and down, again and again! I’ll definitely keep this in mind as something to observe and test in all three Creatures games. Thanks for the info!
