The Journeys of New Life
Written onThe location where a Norn is born in Albia often dictates what will happen during his or her first stage of life. In the relatively confined areas near the incubator and garden, a young Norn can’t get into too much trouble. Even more importantly, the computer is usually just a lift or teleporter ride away! In the last update, there were three baby Norns born within the span of a few minutes. Each one was born in a different location, which led to some interesting paths.
Rafin was easily born in the safest and most agreeable location: The garden. After being coaxed away from any nearby Norns, he became fascinated with the computer and all the knowledge he quickly grasped. Interestingly, as he’s grown up, Rafin rarely strays out of the garden. In fact, he often stays close to the incubator, only venturing out to grab a carrot every now and then. He simply enjoys the known things in life.
Conversely, Izria was born in the furthest corner of the submarine bay. She traveled down the nearest lift, but thankfully was not intrigued by the colorful deathcap mushrooms. She made her journey to the computer at a somewhat frantic pace, since her mere encounter with such a toxic weed was enough to virtually drag her along! But even after experiencing the garden sanctuary, she enjoys exploring on her own around the ocean. Seems like it’s an instinct: That is one terrified Norn!
Finally, my greatest challenge was Timren, who was born on the island. He had to take a trip across the ocean when he was barely minutes old, and then we traversed a large portion of Albia on a quest for proper vocabulary words. I may be mistaken, but Timren looks like he has a slightly reddish or copper hue on his legs. It’s hard to tell if Rafin has the same coloring.
It is important to keep an egg’s location in mind when planning for a new Norn. The incubator is currently closed in my world, due to the growing population. However, moving an egg to hatch it in the incubator is often a sure-fire way to start a Norn’s life off on the right foot. However, there are always alternatives: Both Izria and Timren traveled across half of Albia to learn from the computer! Better yet, maneuvering a pregnant female so that she will lay her egg in a prime location is probably the most desirable method. Baby Norns require a good deal of care early on, but with a little planning, a few minutes can shape the rest of their lives.
