Never Letting Go of a Norn Friendship
The end of the fifth generation of Norns was slowly drawing to a close, and I was faced with another loss shortly after I stepped into Albia. A beloved Norn passed away and left his friend, Losthrayte, to find others to keep her company. She succeeded completely, as Thrennion and Zelroo became very close with her. In the midst of their playtime in the garden, Losthrayte felt the life draining from her, and she died with her two closest friends right next to her. Her life lasted for 10 hours and 38 minutes, which was quite enough for her to do all she wanted to.
Six eggs belonged to Losthrayte, yet I already missed her. She had some odd proportions from her mixture of breeds, and she was one who seemed rather lost at some points. Zelroo was very attached to Losthrayte, and kneeled down in front of her, waiting for her friend to wake up. It was a pretty sad moment for everyone in Albia. This was one of the hardest lessons Zelroo would have to learn. I still don’t know if Norns quite understand the concept of death, although some seem eerily aware of it at times. I joined Zelroo in a final farewell to Losthrayte.
In the midst of this inevitable serious spell, I found a reason to laugh. Preetar, Pfeffablel, and Dahloi decided to leave the island in search of a new home. They had all settled in for a long time, so I was happy to see them trying something different. While they were in the submarine, Pfeffablel went through her transformation from an adult to an elder. Dahloi looked confused, Preetar wanted to run away, and Pfeffablel had to reassure them that she was still a Norn! I had to giggle at Preetar’s terrified eyes, which could barely be seen peeking out from the back of the submarine. Such a silly bunch of Creatures!
With two young adults in the garden, I was secretly hoping that Thrennion and Zelroo would become parents-to-be for the first time together. It was actually even better than that: They planned their first egg in the exact spot where Losthrayte passed away. It was almost like they wanted to remember her life by giving Albia a new life. The only trouble was this this unborn baby possessed a very unusual and confusing mutation, which would likely keep him or her from being in the next generation. On that note, I also had to figure out what to do with any of the babies who wouldn’t be in the following generation…
