Closing in on Better Lemons for Albia
Written onPerhaps Discover Albia has had a decidedly lemony taste recently, but it’s finally all in the name of progress! I fixed some CAOS problems, and then had to deal with the images. I learned one very important lesson. I remember reading somewhere that the width of C1 images must always be in multiples of four (i.e. 4, 8, 12, 16, etc.). I followed this rule for some reason, and then discovered that it truly does hold true. I had some very distorted lemons until I changed the dimensions! Then, I had one very happy test Norn pick every ripe lemon and down it like candy. Hurrah!
Growing lemons in two different dimensions on the existing trellis is a bit challenging. Although they will never be perfect, I’m very happy with how this project has advanced! I have a little bit of testing to do on my part, and then these will be ready for distribution! I will be doing another beta testing phase with these lemons, just like I had with the carrot beta testing. Keep an eye out for that opportunity! There are plenty of other updates to Creatures 1 objects, particularly anything edible. The updated carrots and lemons should work some magic on the eating habits of Norns and Grendels, and I’m thrilled to be able to improve C1! I’m still no expert CAOS coder, yet I hope these downloads make your worlds better, even just a little bit!
Wow, they look amazing. I’m glad to hear that you’ve fixed these problems! :)
Thanks, Malkin! I’m so glad I managed to find some existing sprites that fit in with the lemons. Most of the mistakes were just silly ones on my part… I’ll probably go into a little more detail on how to use multiple image sets in one sprite file to have randomized growth, as shown by these lemons. It’s not too complex, but it does take some important understanding in terms of how to assign pose numbers! Hopefully that explanation might encourage more C1 developers to utilize this feature!
That would be great! It’s a nifty concept which can bring a lot of variety to COBs or agents, and having an explanation of how it can work in C1 could be very interesting.
I followed Papriko’s tutorial, although it seems like there are some differences when using the instructions in C1, compared with C3/DS. Either that, or I just wasn’t following it too well! Now that I know how to use it, it’s a great way to make COBs a little more variable. Many food items still won’t need it, but I’m sure it will be useful for many different types of objects!
